Treasurer’s report:

dues $10,690.73 (includes money to be distributed from AED grants)
equipment $5,036.24
Merrill Lynch $3,191.72
Medical Direction:
IV protocols- the state is opposed to making D50 a standard off-line order. For now we must call in.
Protocol proposed for I-O3 medications. Peter has slightly modified the Albuturol and Nitro protocols. They will be posted for a month via the listserv and we will vote next month.
When calling for medical direction (this is feedback from ER docs) state: “xyz rescue calling for on-line medical direction for ________.” The attending should be responsible for writing any information down. The attending only needs a short version of the report- think streamlined. Please do by phone as often as possible. Suggestion was made to have the attending and radio room personnel use the speakerphone so that both could get information at the same time.
Polyheme study update and vote: There were questions about training. The company will send up a representative to a train the trainer session. All materials will be provided. If a person can start an IV they should be able to transfer the knowledge easily. The state is supportive of the study and the company and hospital will provide community presentations if the study is approved. There is no criteria for participation based on call volume. Whoever meets the criteria will be able to participate. If a patient meets the criteria for the study we would call in for orders. The radio room will randomize whether or not we give our patients fluid or polyheme. Will any cost be incurred by the services? It should be an in-house training so there should be no cost to the services above what training usually costs. The hospital is looking at being able to compensate services for both participating and for each transported taking place in the study. No firm figures have been decided yet. This study was approved. Any services interested should check in with Peter Igneri at peter.igneri@vtmednet.org. He wants to have contact information for both the head of service and training coordinator. He will contact the service reps prior to sending out information to communities. There will also be open community forums so that community members can provide feedback.
Peter resigned as medical direction of South Burlington Fire.
What are the thoughts of those in attendance about paramedicine? Some present were in favor. Some were not. Things to look at involve a community model or individual services, scope of practice, hospital supports. Peter and Wendy explained that the number of hospital transports/visits have substantially increased since our current method of pre-hospital care was developed. Wendy is looking for numbers of calls that will prove that paramedicine would have made a difference. Much discussion was had about how those services without a paramedic as a member would be hard-pressed to come up with this data. Wendy will make a list of possible scopes of practice to answer this question. If people are interested in joining a committee please talk to Wendy.
Radio Room
The significant potholes have been refilled. Kirstin is still working on getting the minor holes filled. Please also be careful of traffic in the tight space around the ER.
The blanket supply is running low again. The expectation is that each ambulance service will use 1 thermal blanket per call. As was discussed earlier this fall services should consider investing in wool blankets for the patients who truly need the warmth and bundling not just wind blockage.
Documentation- please push really hard so that the pink forms have readable information. Kirstin is using them for quality improvement purposes. Also First Response services should fax completed run sheets to the radio room so that they can be included in medical charts. Radio Room fax # 847-4692.
MCI- no report
Policies/Procedures- no report
Logistics-
Some services still need to hand in 4th quarter AED reports. The form for this can be found on the district website.
Kirstin made a preproposal that during winter storm advisories and warnings only 1 ambulance will respond to the interstate. She will bring more information next meeting.
Heavy Rescue/FD-Al Barber
The County Fire Chiefs are looking at changing the way that heavy rescues are dispatched. It will be a fire officer who will decide when and who to dispatch.
Discussion held about whether heavy rescues should be signing on to Hear 1. It was decided that this is unnecessary now that most services have frequencies or dispatches in communication with the responding department and unlike previous times can contact each other directly to advise of responses.
Training Committee-
There is an evaluator’s class 2/18. It will be in Rowell 118 at 6pm. A motion was made to have the district pay for dinner. Passed. Those who have completed the instructor-coordinator’s class are exempt from this training. This training will occur again for those who can not make it. All interested need to have their training officers register them with Jason Z.
Recert exams will be held on the 18th and 30th of March.
Class updates:
I class is going well. There are 26 students. Currently Greg and Pat are looking at having drugs given under a preceptor system. If your service is interested in having this occur please contact Greg.
The Weds. Night B class is going well. They are ~20% through the class.
The Tues. night B class is also going well. They are ~75% of the way through the class.

Burlington FD proposed and the district accepted a recertificatin course for 4/20, 4/21, and 4/22. It will be one test over 3 days at 1300. Please contact Kevin to register.
Old Business:
Jason Z. looking for someone to take over the management of the AED grant. Deb B. accepted.
New Business:
Homeland Security meeting will be held on 2/23 to agree on what meets the criteria for grants. Services will soon get letters in the mail with this information. Homeland Security representatives are looking at the communication issues within Vermont at the state level. Award letters for the last round of grants will be going out soon.
