FAHC MEDICAL DIRECTION:
The new computer should be up and running by next month.
State still working on database for run sheets. Working with Delaware to modify it.
DNR protocol approved by VNA and nursing homes. FAHC still having meetings on this.
ET tube off-line now.
When transporting patients from MVC’s who want to be “checked out only,” they must be backboarded with c-spine precautions.
With critical/urgent patients, reports should go to the Attending as well as the nurse.
FAHC/MHCIC:
No report or issues for Gil or Kirsten.
MCI:
Becca Webb and Greg Wolf are interested in working on this committee. Any ideas, contact Becca or Greg.
Recent drills: Airport – Tricky with 80 victims. Not all agencies who would normally be activated actually participated in this drill. The drill was called before completion since it was taking too long with too few resources. Communications worked well. Casualty collection point set up and patients moved to safe place for triage. Ran out of MET tags. Treatment area was very good and clearly defined. Need to get backboards to field quicker from airport stock. Announcement made early on for all ambulatory to go to a specific area. Hazmat went well. For future – FD, EMS, Police – It should be mandatory for all normally responding agencies to attend these drills.
Question – Was the District involved in the Airport Drill? Not all agencies received information from the airport regarding this.
Essex – Went well, good command. 12 patients at a grandstand collapse at the Fairgrounds. 1 ½ hours to complete with patients transported to hospital. Video tape of this drill available. Communication weaknesses.
Grand Isle school bus drill this weekend.
POLICY AND PROCEDURES: No report. No issues.
LOGISTICS: No report. No issues.
HEAVY RESCUE/FIRE: No report. No issues.
TRAINING:
EMT-I fall class is full and has begun.
EMT-B (1 night/week class) begins on November 5. It will be held Tuesdays 6-9 p.m. at UVM. Applications due on/or before October District Meeting. This class ends at the same time as the Spring EMT class and the exams will coincide.
Future combi-tube classes:
UVM Sept. 19 & 26
Essex Oct. 9 & 16 6:30-9:30 Confirmed.
Modules 3-6 – Becca Webb is proposing 4 module classes in Charlotte as follows:
Module 3 Start 10/21 Exam 12/16
Module 4 Start 01/06 Exam 02/03
Module 5 Start 02/10 Exam 04/28 ER Observation
Module 6 Start 05/12 Exam 06/16 ER Observation
The end of this series will not be completed in time for the District 3 EMT-B exam in April. The exam can be taken later or out of the district. The text used is the same as EMT course. Motion made by Al, 2nd by Jess to approve proposed modules.
Discussion – Anyone interested in Modules 1 and 2? None known.
We have no clear documentation to determine what level people are at and why they aren’t moving forward with the modules. Will try to fix this for the future.
The new ECA’s expire in 3 years and will need 30 hours of CE to take the Recertification exam. The modules expire at the same time, but they cannot be recertified. If ECA’s have not completed modules and become EMT’s, they must repeat the module classes to use the needed skills.
Another option – the EMT instructor may allow students to skip part of EMT-B class if they achieved 90+ on their exam.
5 of 19 who have completed modules 1 & 2 are interested in taking modules 3-6. Some are taking EMT-B class. Many don’t want to go further.
Module courses approved unanimously.
Still no one interested in Training Coordinator position. Any suggestions?
EMT-B Refresher – Kate Soons proposed a refresher course for 10/8, 10/12, 10/13 & 10/15 (2 Tuesdays and 1 weekend). DOT Refresher with 8 hours of elective material. Class needs minimum of 12, max of 18 students. Cost $95 which includes snacks and meals. Motion made by Megan, 2nd by Kevin to approve. Approved unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS:
License information needed. Will check with State on the applications.
NEW BUSINESS:
Program for old ECA’s to transition to new ECA or to EMT-B is being worked on.
The adult antishock garment might be taken off the required ambulance equipment list in the near future. Please check with the State before purchasing new ones.
ET tube off-line and removed from ambulances. Can we keep McGill forceps on the rig? Medical Direction will consider this and get back with approval.
Next District Board meeting will be held in Hall of Fame room, St. Michael’s College on October 10 at 1830 hours.
Meeting adjourned at 1922 hours.
Respectfully submitted by
Susan S. Blanton, Clerk
