EMT-I
Refresher Course, Stowe Rescue, Nov 18th, 8:00 – 5:00 pm, contact
Judy Aronow (e-mail: wonora@juno.com).
The
next case review will be November 21st.
Approved
Courses – EMT-Basic:
The fall EMT-B (day and evening) and EMT-I courses have one month left.
The state practical exam will be Dec 13th 1730 hours,
evaluators and patients needed with dinner provided.
Approved
Courses - First Responder:
Al advised that the course being conducted in Hinesburg just finished and went
well. Bill advised that the course
being conducted in Vergennes is about a third of the way through with 21
students. The exam will be on Dec.
6th. Bill could use a
practical instructor for next week.
Winter
EMT courses:
Pat had sent out an e-mail via the EMSTRAIN listserv regarding the
application process. Greg advised
that the EMT-I course is one shy of being full as of the meeting.
Related to this Pat brought up the concern with students entering courses
that may have identified problems prior to the course.
Pat strongly encouraged TO’s to work with their membership to assure
that they do not have learning disabilities or life issues.
Winter/Spring
EMT-B Day course?
Pat asked if there was an interest for a daytime EMT-Basic course?
If so, he will propose one next month.
Please let Pat know with any interest.
If so the schedule will be Tuesday and Thursday afternoons if proposed.
Summer
EMT-B course?
Greg advised that over the past two summers Pat has coordinated an EMT-B
course. The numbers for both were
about the same with different schedules (the first being week-nights only while
the second being every other week end). Pat
is looking for other alternative schedules.
Tara asked about an online possibility?
Pat and Greg have been discussing the possibility of either an online
course or a teleconference model.
Recertification
Follow-up
– There were approximately 40 who recertified on either of the October nights.
Please let your respective services know that the next testing round will
be Feb. 1st and 15th and not any in April or May.
Greg advised that the reason for the decoupling of initial and
recertification exams was to make the process easier for those testing. Kevin asked if someone other than the district could host a
recertification exam? Greg
discussed this with the state Tara was concerned with having adequate equipment
available. Pat would like to have
the state more involved in testing. Chris
suggested having a Saturday or split session with written and practicals.
We need more help for practicals and we need those attending to be more
receptive.
First
Responder/ECA Instruction – Greg and Bill continue to work on the resource
packet that is part of the checklist for future ECA instructors.
Bill continues to work on the lesson plans and outlines for the modules.
John asked about the number of students who are immediately going into
the EMT-Basic course? Pat advised
that there are a few from the summer course and out of the district. Al believes that the numbers are low as the EMT-Basic option
is the only one at this time without the modules.
He and Becca both believe that there exists a population, such as fire
services, that would benefit from the modules.
Greg distributed a rough draft of a
survey to gather feedback from providers in the district to help with designing
schedules for modules, Greg will include suggestions from the discussion and
have copies printed for the next meeting for distribution (click HERE
to view the survey). Bill
explained that the process to develop the modules is not a light task and that
the focus now is on the first two modules.
Greg suggested having a general information meeting specific to this
issue sometime after the holidays.
No
new business.
Meeting
adjourned at 1835 hours.
Respectfully
submitted,
Greg
