The meeting was called to order at 1835 hours by Chair Greg Thweatt. 12 people were in attendance representing 4 District posts and 10 out of 22 services. Those in attendance were:

Review Agenda: The chair briefly reviewed the agenda for the meeting.

• Next meeting will be held on June 8, 2000 at 1830 hours at St. Michael’s College.
• Clarification – EMTs taking a Refresher course and EMTs Recertifying both take the same exam, the Refresher exam.
• May 13^th, Saturday. Starts at 0900 in Middlebury. EMT-B recert only, call Charlene Phelps at 453-3461.
• Future VTEMSD#3 Recert schedule discussion: In an effort to improve exam testing the move to de-couple initial and recert testing is being made. This will also address the need to recert before National Registry paperwork is due. Recertification testing will be moved to October and February which will spread out the demand for resources and hopefully have more help available for testing. Sixty to eighty people recert every 6 months, hope to have recert in the evening or a Saturday morning. Start written in one room and as people complete exam they can move to another room from which they will be sent to practical exam stations, hopefully this setup will move things along. Evening tests are better for State. Formal date proposal will be next month, suggested dates are 19 & 26 Oct and 1 & 15 Feb (all Thursday evenings) Pat added the cost for the Saturday testing has reached $500.00, which does not include payment to coordinator. We may need to cut-out food service. Evening testing should cost less, in past has cost about $150.00.
• FAHC Case Review: May 16^th, Seizures. July 18^th, 1900 hours, Kathy Karg would like topic suggestions.
• Drug of the Month: Keith is still working on project.

Approval of Minutes

Motion to accept minutes of May 9, 2000 meeting by Ted, second by Earl. Motion passed.

• Fall EMT-B and EMT-I course proposals: (Pat) In the past, the classes for the upcoming year have been proposed, it is easier administratively. Fall schedule of Basic class distributed, one copy of intermediate class schedule available. Pat will be proposing two different Fall basic classes, the schedule distributed is for the District’s Monday and Wednesday evening class. Motion to accept Monday and Wednesday basic and intermediate class proposal by Bill, second by Rod. Classes are similar to last year. Testing dates moved to Monday and Wednesday evenings. Both classes start August 28^th. Registration due Aug 1^st for Fall course and Dec 1^st for Spring course. Greg has already begun receiving applications for the intermediate class. Apply ASAP. Motion passed. Mail applications for basic class to Pat and applications for intermediate class to Greg, addresses are on the bottom of the application.
  Second proposal is for a daytime EMT-Basic course at UVM on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with the occasional Saturday. Motion to accept daytime course by Lee, second by Ker. Same textbook, same District instructors, students will attend Saturday practicals with the M/W class. Course will cost less because UVM will be paying Pat’s salary. Proposed cost is $175.00. Traditional students expected to attend, limit to 12-16 traditional students. Spots available for District #3 affiliates. Course proposal for Fall only, trial class. May ask to approve similar course for the Spring semester if Fall course goes well. More detailed info to be out next month. Motion passed. Same application used for this course, please CALL Pat if interested in attending.
• First Responder/ECA Instruction – update on May 2^nd informational meeting: (Bill) – A lot of the information that has been discussed at previous meetings was discussed at the informational session. Pat thought Bill did an excellent job, brought up new thoughts concerning new services versus existing services and the need for this course. Gwyn applauded the session as well, found it very informative.
• Motion to accept First Responder Course Instruction Policy by Howie, second by Lee. Hearing no discussion, vote called. Motion passed.
• First Responder Course Proposal (Bill): Motion to accept course proposal by Lee, second by Ker. Course proposal paperwork distributed. Class to be held at new facility at 655 Spear St., Mon. & Wed with two Saturdays. $45.00, includes text. Start May 22^nd. Coordinators hope training officer or service director would prioritize list of potential attendees due to limited class size. Still discussing stagger starting a second course. Wish is to distribute available class slots equally in the District. Please be considerate of the first response organizations which are just starting up and desperately need certified members, if your service can wait a bit to send people, please do so. Motion passed. Greg asks the course coordinators to compile information for instructor orientation training session. Next step is to begin discussing modules and their integration/instruction.
• Refresher Course: Kate Soons unable to propose course at this time.
