VTEMSD#3 Training Committee Minutes for June 8, 2000

Greg Thweatt called the meeting to order at 1835 hours. Those in attendance were:

Introductions: Stacy Dudley introduced herself as the new rep. for UVM Rescue. Jeff Curren introduced Karen Colombo as the new rep. for Shelburne Rescue.

Review Agenda: The chair reviewed the agenda.

Approval of Minutes: Bill motioned to accept the minutes from April 13, 2000. Lee seconded. Minutes approved as printed.

Announcements - includes any reports

Greg advised that the next meeting will be July 13, 2000

Pat advised that the summer course was almost half way through with 17 students. He distributed packets of schedules for the fall courses (EMT-B day and evening as well as the EMT-I course).

Jeff advised that Shelburne Rescue would be hosting a training session on June 13^th, 1900 hours, with Dr. Peter Weimersheimer discussing medical emergencies.

The next FAHC Case review will be July 18^th, 1900 hours at Burgess Hall.

Drug of the Month for June is Glipizide.

Old Business

First Responder/ECA Instruction – Bill advised that there are only 12 students in the First Responder Course. He is disappointed with the response and due to the low turnout does not believe that the district needs to sponsor another course prior to the orientation workshop. Bill advised that the course is just starting the patient assessment module. Tara explained that the course has been challenging in their ability to stick to the objectives.

First Responder Exam Proctors: Greg explained that the district must provide three names to VTEMS as exam proctors for an ECA exam. Greg explained that these individuals could not be affiliated with a First Responder course as an instructor and that they could be appointed each year at the annual meeting. Maureen motioned to accept the following names as exam proctors until the VTEMSD#3 Annual Meeting in 2001: Susan Blanton, Kevin Williams, and Gil Helmkin. Bill seconded. The motion was approved.

Practical Instructor List: Greg distributed a blank list to each service asking for names of possible practical instructors for future First Responder/ECA or Refresher Courses. The names should be added to the list by each service and returned to Greg who would compile a list for public distribution. Kevin asked what criteria should be used to approve of any name, Greg explained that the committee agreed to have each service’s officers approve of the list and this would be the only criteria used.

Recert Dates: Greg requested if there was any feedback on the proposed recertification exam dates of October 19^th or 26^th and February 1^st or 15^th (all are Thursday evenings). All the feedback was positive. The consensus was to have Greg request these dates with the state.

Cardiac Arrest Annual Reports: Tara reminded the committee that the annual VTEMSD#3 Cardiac Arrest reports were due by the end of June. The form is available on the district webpage (http://shelburne.k12.vt.us/vtemsd3/main.htm)

New Business

Disposable Equipment: Tara distributed new disposable c-collars now available through the E.D. allowing the committee to review the use. Gill also advised that any medications swapped at the E.D. must be made at least six months prior to the expiration date.

Calendar: Kevin asked for an annual calendar of major district dates, Greg offered to work with Tara on this request.
