On August 9, 1990, the Vermont Emergency Medical Services District #3 Board (EMSD#3 Board) voted unanimously to re-initiate a recognition program for emergency medical services workers- "Rescuer of the Month".

The following criteria was agreed upon.

1. Nominees should be individual(s) associated with Vermont Emergency Medical Services District #3: Members of rescue, first response squads, emergency department staffs, public safety organizations and or persons in special circumstances. 

2. Prior to the monthly EMSD #3 Board meetings, a letter of nomination can be submitted outlining why the nominee should be recognized as "Rescuer of the Month".

3. A committee of the District Board will review all nominations prior to the monthly meeting and select the "Rescuer of the Month" for the following month. EXAMPLE: At the October meeting the committee will review and select for the November recipient. 

4. Plaques have been donated by the Women's Auxiliary at the Medical Center and the Associates at the Fanny Allen Hospital. These "Rescuer of the Month" plaques are located in the emergency department and the name of the "Rescuer of the Month" will be placed there on the first of the month.
