ADVANCED EMT PREROGATIVES

This is a Medical Direction Statement of position concerning how an advanced EMT may utilize their skills while not functioning with their own squad.

An advanced EMT within District 3 who finds one's self in a position to potentially use their advanced skills does so only if the squad responsible for the patient care agrees to use some or all of those skills; the squad then assumes responsibility for the actions of the advanced EMT. It should be noted that the squad determines the extent of care it is willing to sponsor. *

Advanced EMT's who desire to use their advanced skills at special functions and mass gatherings may do so if their squad is involved in providing medical coverage or if the District Board and Medical Direction agree in advance that this is proper. This later condition would likely only apply under special circumstances on a case by case basis.

*Note: Should any irregularities or adverse outcomes occur, Medical DIRECTION may direct corrective action to any or all of the following:

1) The involved advanced EMT

2) The squad that accepted the offer of advanced skills

3) The squad with which the advanced EMT normally works
