RADIO COMMUNICATIONS GUIDELINES

Radio communications between ambulances and receiving Emergency Department.

The radio communications policy of Vermont E.M.S. District #3 to identify patients to the receiving hospital for access to patient records prior to the patients arrival shall be as follows:

1. The patients home phone should be used if possible to contact MHCIC at 864-0454. The patients full name and DOB, plus any pertinent information can be given over the phone.

2. A cellular phone may be used when the patients home phone would delay transport or you are not near a land phone. Contact MHCIC at 864-0454 and give the patients full name and DOB plus any pertinent information.

3. If phones are unavailable and you have the patients FAHC card, the card number and DOB can be given over HEAR 1 frequency.

4. When the above options can not be utilized then the patients initials and DOB can be given over HEAR 1 frequency.

5. If you have a patient who is from out of the area or who has never been to the local hospital, Initials are not needed. This information can be given to the receiving Emergency Department when patient's Initials are requested.
